I figured you can revert a package version using "Synaptics" -- not sure if you need to be online in order to do that.
I guess it does exactly what GordThompson mentioned.
So, if you find it...
ehehe if I only knew how to do that...
same issue. i updated today (21/01/2013) and after rebooting wireless stopped working. :(

same problem. was happening on ubuntu 9.04, keeps happening on 10.04.
Yeah. Commenting out the "load-module module-device-restore" worked for me too.
same problem here.
started after upgrading from 9.04 to 10.04. This version is giving me lots of headaches on my Acer Aspire... ugh.
thanks!
right. i had the same issue. somehow after the upgrade the "speaker" volume was set to minimum.
same problem. :(
doing the "metacity --restart" on console only works while the terminal remains opened.
setting "system -> appearences -> effects -> normal" only works until reboot.
For me what worked was: install grub-pc package.
This will remove the default one that shipped with Ubuntu 10.04 -- that didnt seem to work at all.
Didn't work for me.
I was very happy to see that my system also missed one initrd.img, so I followed your steps, but it didn't work. The new img is know there, but the problem persists.
I'm...

cool...
but is it right to hard remove this directory?
shouldnt we use a tool for that and then get samba.conf synch'ed with /var/lib/samba/usershares ?
The info may be in /var/lib/samba/usershares diretory.
It holds all my shares.
applause. totally agree.
if you create the share using Nautilus through right-clicking the folder and 'Share folder' this sharing doesn't go to this file.
least not for me on Ubuntu 9.04
same problem here.
